Reading the labelThere is lots of information on the labels of baby and toddler foods, snacks and drinks. Here’s a label from a baby food jar and some explanation of the information you will find there. If you have any questions about Heinz or Farley’s products you can call our Baby Care Team on 0800 212 991.
Front of LabelTogether with the name, we include some pictures of the ingredients to help you see what’s in the food, at a glance. We add a little button to show which stage of weaning the food is designed for.
Ingredients As you probably know, the ingredients list shows what’s in the recipe, starting with the largest amount, followed by the second largest amount, and so on. Sometimes you will see a percentage given after an ingredient, for example (pick an example from this label). This is so that you can find out how much of an ingredient is prominent within the recipe that is actually in the food.
Nutrition InformationIt is Heinz and Farley’s policy to include full nutrition labelling on baby food labels. This gives you the amount of energy, protein and the other major nutrients that are present in 100g (about 3 1/2 ozs) of the food.
ContainsThis section gives a quick guide to the presence of certain ingredients in the recipe. There are twelve foods which are the most common causes of allergy and intolerance. If any of these are included in the recipe it is highlighted here. We sometimes give additional information in this box when a recipe might contain traces of a certain food.
Tick List This is at a glance a guide to what the recipe does and doesn’t contain. All Heinz and Farley’s foods and drinks are made without added preservatives, artificial flavours or colours, and with no added salt.
The remaining ticks on the list refer to the absence of certain ingredients or suitability for certain diets such as vegetarian and gluten-free
