Preparing for birth

'You can't believe the amount of stuff you don't know'
Helen, 27, says she was information mad when she was pregnant with her baby George.

‘I was reading so much stuff and talking to so many people that it was just like information overload.  And I was going online, on chat rooms and things, which is all great, but you kind of have to take stock of everything once in a while and decide what it is you’re actually going to listen to.

‘Okay, so I guess I got loads of good advice for preparing for birth and actually having George.  Leading up to the birth I had a really funny midwife.  She swore that the best thing you could do was to get your fella to massage your perineum!  That and pelvic floor exercises she swore by.

‘Other things that were great for preparing for birth were the ante-natal sessions.  I know some people who didn’t bother with them ,but I’m glad I did.  You can’t believe the amount of stuff you don’t know.  And meeting other people who are having kids as well is really great.  I didn’t have many friends with children so it was really useful to meet other people who were going through the same thing.

Did you know?
The size of your breasts doesn’t affect milk supply. As long as your baby is feeding regularly, your body will produce all the milk they need.
