When you were just bottle or breast feeding, giving your baby food on the move was relatively easy. Now that your baby is eating solids, there may be times when you’ll need to take food with you. But this needn’t be a hassle. In fact, with these simple tips, eating out can be both easy and fun for you and your baby.
Keep it simplePack food that you know your baby likes. Whether you’re out sight-seeing or running around on a sunny beach, you’ll find holidays aren’t the ideal time to experiment with new tastes. So if your baby is a big fan of bananas or pieces of bread, don’t leave home without them. The key is to make it as easy as possible for your self.
Have finger foods to handEasy, tasty and portable, finger foods are a great way to keep baby happy between meals. Heinz Farley’s Bear biscuits or Farley’s Rusks are simple to pack and even easier to eat. You could even have a small bag of carrot sticks handy, or peeled orange segments. Babies love finger foods - what’s more, they encourage babies to feed themselves and can help to develop hand to eye co-ordination.
Take care with milkIf you’re breast feeding, you’ll have a ready supply of milk at just the right temperature. If you’re bottle-feeding, you still need to be well prepared. A good idea is to have ready-to-use cartons of your baby’s usual formula milk in store. When you go out, simply take the cartons and a pre-sterilised bottle with you. Then, when it’s needed, open the carton with some clean scissors and pour into the bottle. If you also take a flask of hot water, plus a suitable container in which to place the bottles, you can then warm up the feeds when you need them. Bear in mind that it’s not safe to keep warm, prepared feeds in a flask or in an insulated cover as they could easily upset your baby’s tummy and even cause infection.
